This portrait pays homage to the Pawnee, a tribe from the Nebraska and Kansas plains that was forced into exile in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma at the end of the 19th century. Sumptuously dressed, Pani La Shar Pawnee holds a sculpted peace pipe featuring a galloping horse. His calm gaze and proud bearing express the great dignity of his people. Peace pipes and bison heads decorate the corners of this composition, around which run horses and their riders inspired by Karl Bodmer’s notebooks. The work of this 19th-century illustrator remains a precious record of Native American culture. Pani La Shar Pawnee, designed in 1984, was the first scarf imagined by Kermit Oliver, the first American artist commissioned by Hermès to design a series of scarves.

Rare and sought after by collectors. A complex scarf that required 35 frames to create, much more than the average Hermès scarf.

This scarf was purchased brand new in 2021, the scarf was probably made for Fall/Winter 2018.

The Hermès silk wash process gives the silk an irresistible softness and patina. The scarf can be machine washed.

Dominant colors: red, navy blue, green, gold, burgundy.

Excellent condition, new, never worn: no stains, no discoloration, no pulled thread, no holes, original tag attached.

Does not come with original box or dust bag.
